October, 2004, RAKSZ at the State Fair of Texas! Here is a pic from the RAKSZ performance this last Friday at the State Fair. This has to be one of the most fun events we do all year!
September 23, 2004 Hakim! Hakim was in town this weekend to play a concert. I was unable to attend the concert, but Hakim and his band members came to Al-Amir for dinner the night before, and I performed a show exclusively for them! I'm currently writing an article on my experience for submission to Papyrus and Gilded Serpent , and I'll post pictures here as soon as I have them.
June 9, 2004: It's officially official: I am now a member of the RAKSZ dance troupe! What an honor it is to have been asked by these great ladies to join them! We've been having a great time performing together - since April I have performed with them at the Raqia Hassan workshop in Houston, at Al-Amir in Dallas, and at Ciro's and Sidewalk Cafe, both in Addison. I'll be adding upcoming dates with RAKSZ to my performance page in the future, so check back often!
Also, I am participating in the inaugural 2004-05 Texas Raks Calendar! I will have calendars for sale soon on this site! For more information, check out the Texas Raks website!
April 2, 2004: The "Ya Bahaia" CD release party/show was an absolute blast! What a treat to perform to a cut from the new CD played live by the musicians who recorded it! The performances were videotaped, so look for news of a possible video release of the party soon! I will post pics from the show as soon as they are available. For more information about the CD, please visit www.bahaia.com
Jan. 31, 2004: I had the pleasure of performing at the Webb Art Gallery for the opening of their exhibit of vintage carnival banners. The space was beautiful, the crowd was friendly, the exhibit was whimsical and magical, and I had a fabulous time! I did two performances, one retro American Cabaret style performance (a total departure from my usual style) and one more modern cabaret style performance. Here are two pics from the evening: (Note the awesome banner in the background!) Thanks, Julie, for inviting me to be a part of your show!

**NYE Update: Here are some pictures from the New Year's show at Al-Amir. These are video stills, so the quality is grainy, but they are still very nice shots!

Jan. 1, 2004: New Year's celebrations at Al-Amir were the biggest ever! The Al-Amir dancers put on a huge spectacle of a show, with fire tray (and FANTASTIC visual effects), group choreographies with the wings of Isis and cane, and duet and solo performances. The audience was spellbound! We will be doing more productions like this in the upcoming year, so check back often for the latest updates.
Sept. 5-7, 2003: Dina from Egypt came to Texas for an exclusive workshop and performance! What a fabulous weekend - there was so much going on! I met so many wonderful people - great dancers as well as great people who had gathered together to study with Egypt's current star of the dance. Dina herself proved to be as gracious, funny, and smart as she is beautiful and gifted. It was so inspiring to take class from her and to watch her perform live - thanks belong to DeeDee and Ahmad Asad of Little Egypt in Dallas who brought her here, for their commitment to sharing their love of their culture and dance.
